Touching stuff

Stone Eyeland

Well, well. I once thought I’d never produce art on a screen, or use any digital media. I also swore I’d never drink coffee or get a tattoo. How times change, and minds too.

Recently I’ve dabbled with Procreate on the old iPad. I’m no master, but I’m enjoying learning and dabbling. The Peacock above is my second attempt, and I was surprised at how rapidly and comfortably it all came together. Who knows, maybe something more polished soon? Until then, more sketches like this.

Imperial entanglements

Whoops, I’ve made a boob. No, not a Jake and Dinos Chapmanesque sculpture but a simple error. I’ve listed all the dimensions of the works in inches (“). This should be Centimetres. Whoever heard of Lego boards more than two feet in width? Tsk.

Eyetie is an Insult

Eyetie is an Insult. Acrylic and Lego on Lego crossroads. 29″ x 29″ approx.

Another St Mary’s pupil from the eighties, at least as I remember her. She went by the beautiful moniker of Lucia Maria Fiore, not an easy name for a six year old to wrap his teeth around. She was the best daisy chain maker I’ve ever met.

August 7th was the opening night, and here are some action shots. Okay, not action shots in the Robert Capa sense but for me it was an evening of heightened activity, nerves and sweaty palmness. A massive thanks to everyone who came. The turnout was brilliant and everyone was very kind, with a couple of notable (but predictable) exceptions.

I think our work goes together really well. In fact, I know it does. Nick and I were run off our feet trying to speak to everyone, if we missed you, we’re sorry.

The exhibition is open until October 1st, so pop along and have a look if you’re in Sheffield. If you want a viewing accompanied by an expert in the field (me) then get in touch. If you want to buy one of these finely crafted artworks, get in touch too.

October will see a new exhibition by Foster M. I’m looking forward to seeing that.

Some of the work from ‘Paintings and Works Not Inspired by the Peak District’ will be seen at different venues after October, I’ll put dates and times on here when details are known.

Cheers, chicken.

Making an exhibition of myself…

Here you go, pictures by me in frames hanging on walls and everything. It’s been a long time coming. I’m really pleased with the way things turned out. Nick and I originally had a theme to tie things together but we fobbed that off quite early on and did our own thing. Luckily we are in close sync mentally so as we were hanging the work we found that it just went together really well. Happy accident type of thing.

All of my stuff is based on mental images from early childhood, mainly primary school age days. Simple, gentle times where dog shit was white and shops closed on Sundays. And Redgates, oh, man. Redgates was still open. If you aren’t from Sheffield you won’t know what I’m talking about and I really can’t convey to you the feelings of wonder and magic that the word ‘Redgates’ opens in the minds of some. We few, we happy few.

Back to the present. Next up, action shots from the opening night at The Circle of ‘Paintings and Works Not Inspired by the Peak District’.
